9th NPC Standing Committee to Decide on Calling 2nd National Conference
The 9th NPC Standing Committee met yesterday morning and decided to call its 8th Plenary Session on February 27-28 in Beijing, which is going to concentrate on a discussion for making preparations for the 2nd Conference of the 9th National People's Congress scheduled on March 5.
Seven items will be put on agenda by the 8th Plenary Session of the 9th NPC Standing Committee. They include reviewing of draft agenda and name lists of members on the Presidium and election of Secretary General for the 2nd Conference of the 9th NPC, following a decision by the NPC Standing Committee Chairmen's Meeting.
The legislature will also have a review of the work report of the NPC Standing Committee and discuss the list of names for nonvoting delegates for the forthcoming session.
At the meeting, which was presided over by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Li Peng, lawmakers also passed a legislative plan of the NPC Standing Committee in 1999. A total of 24 draft laws is expected to be examined, including amendments to the Constitution, the contract law and the copyright law.
