Vice-Premier Says University Housing Needs Improvement
Vice-premier Li Lanqing said yesterday that university teachers' housing needs to be improved to encourage them to work harder for the country.
He said that the country does not want to see shoddy apartment blocks and "Tongzilou", or bunkhouses, without toilets and kitchens, on campuses in the 21st century.
In a visit to Beijing Science and Technology University and Beijing Medical Science University, Li said that young teachers and students are the main force in China's educational and scientific developments, and that the proper working and living conditions need to be created for them.
He asked government departments to allocate funds as soon as possible and to use well-qualified construction workers for the needed buildings.
