Universal Postal Union Conference Open to Media First Time ĦĦĦĦIt is learned from the liaison meeting of China Organizing Committee of the 22nd Universal Postal Union Conference and the '99 World Philately Exhibition, the Universal Postal Union will be open to media for the first time. The Universal Postal Union, with a history of centennial development, will welcome interviews of media on various topics of the conference under discussion. ĦĦĦĦThe Universal Postal Union with its 189 member countries and 700 thousand post offices all over the world makes up the largest global postal network. It is an international inter-government organization that works to decide by consultation and coordinate inter-governmental postal affairs. Interviews on bills discussion had been rejected by past sessions of the Conference for strict trade secrecy. Based on the idea that postal trade needs general social recognition and participation, the Executive Committee on the Council of the Universal Postal Union has decided to open its discussion to media. In addition, the Conference has set a "Users' Day" on which it will invite 200 companies, publishers and enterprises to represent at the meeting and hear their views and demands on "business correspondence".
