Media and Masses Closer to Courts

Chinese courts at all levels will gradually establish a spokesperson system, announced Xiao Yang, China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) president, at a recent court conference.

Courts at all levels are expected to welcome representatives of the local press and to take their complaints and proposals seriously, Xiao said, suggesting that greater attention should be paid to criticism and supervision from the press.

China began to pay more attention to judicial justice issues in autumn of 1997. Since then, more courts have opened their trials to the public and news people are free to cover most trials.
