Chinese Leader Says Great Effort Needed for Anti-Corruption
Wei Jianxing, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, says that Party committees, the government, and discipline inspection departments need to make a greater anti-corruption effort this year.
The remarks came during Wei's recent visit to Hubei Province, where he said that departments above the county level need more education about the anti-corruption work in accordance with the CPC Central Committee decisions and that they should be honest in performing their duties, and that any violation of Party discipline should be severely penalized.
Sources of corruption need to be removed, he said, and Party committees and governments should be separated from economic entities and the transparency in handling the affairs in villages, factories and governments should be increased.
Wei emphasized that minimum living expenses for laid-off workers and pension for retired elderly people need to be given on time, especially as the Spring Festival approaches.
Wei visited the Wuhan Iron and Steel Group, the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, Wuhan Donghu New-technology Development Zone, and the Three Gorges Project from February 4 to 10.
