China Regrets Ethiopia-Eritrea Border Conflict
China expressed its regrets on February 9 over the border conflicts between Ethiopia and Eritrea which broke out on February 6.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue made the remarks at the weekly press briefing while asked to comment on the ongoing hostilities.
She said that China is deeply concerned about the loss in human lives and property in the conflicts.
As a country friendly to both Ethiopia and Eritrea and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China sincerely hopes that the two sides will immediately stop the hostilities and conflicts, she noted.
China also called on the two countries, for the integrity of Africa, to peacefully solve the territory disputes by taking a flexible, positive and pragmatic attitude, she added.
Zhang said that China always supports the efforts made by the Organization of African Unity and the United Nations for the peaceful solution of the problem, and would like to continue its efforts to this end.
