Chinese Premier Asks For People's Opinions On Work Report
Premier Zhu Rongji met with scientists and other prominent figures on February 9 at a forum in Zhongnanhai (headquarters of the Chinese Party and government) to comment on a work report he will deliver at the National People's Congress early next month.
They included Wang Hu, the former President of Beijing Industrial University, Yan Cunhua, a professor of Peking University, Wang Chengwei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liu Chuanzhi, president of the Legend Group, Wang Shiguang, President of Central Opera and Ballet Theater, Zhou Heping, deputy director of the National Library in Beijing, Han Qide, Vice-president of Beijing Medical Sciences University, Zhang Xielin, head coach of the General Administration of Sports, and Yang Deyan, the general manager of the Commercial Press.
All those present praised the report for placing importance on the strategy of revitalizing the nation through science and education and the strategy for sustained growth. They said that economic development should rely on scientific and technological developments and on improving the quality of the labor force.
Some said that medical care reforms should be accelerated and that the family planning administration needs to be improved. There were a number of proposals on improving the pharmaceuticals market, the health of the nation, moral and cultural standards, and intellectual property protection.
