Commentary: Dialog is the Right Choice

Representatives from the two sides of the Kosovo conflicts held peace talks in the French town of Rambouillet February 6, aimed to seek a political solution to the crisis. Though the result of the talks is difficult to predict, dialog helps to ease the Kosovo situation.

Stopping conflicts and sitting down to talks is the only right choice to solve the Kosovo crisis. The tragic facts of this crisis, which intensified last February, show that the use of force cannot solve the national contradiction and strife in Kosovo, on the contrary, it can only bring terrible disasters to the country and people.

The peace talks in Rambouillet will not only decide the future of Yugoslavia, but also will exert critical influence on the Balkan situation.

We hope that the two sides involved in the Kosovo conflicts draw lessons from history and find a peace solution in line with the fundamental interests of all national groups in Yugoslavia and conducive to maintaining peace in the region.

The inter-nationality relations in Kosovo are very complicated due to historical reasons, so that the principle of national reconciliation and equality become more important. The Majority's discrimination against the ethnic groups or splitting activities of the ethnic groups will all bring disasters to the nation and people.

The Yugoslav people need peace and development even more. The disintegration of former Yugoslavia, regional wars and severe international sanctions plunged the economy and living standards of this country, which used to be better than other nations in Eastern Europe, back to decades ago.

The big powers, who are doing the mediating work, should consider the interests of Yugoslavia and its people, and promote the two sides involved in Kosovo conflicts to realize true reconciliation by a fair and political way, instead of taking advantages of this chance for their own gains.

We hope the Kosovo peace process will begin from this dialog.
