No Room for Counterfeited Substandard Medicine Production 　　On February 6, the State Medicine Administration made known its sampling test of medicines by producers during the 4th quarter last year. Substandard medicines as have been found, including "Vitamin C Pill" by Guangdong Province Taishan City Taicheng Pharmaceutical Works, with production licenses rescinded, have all been put to a stop in production. There are altogether ten that have been found with substandard medicines produced including Henan Province Qinyang Pharmaceutical Factory, Henan Zhicheng Medicine Company Ltd., Lanzhou Pharmaceutical Works, Guangdong Yongkang Medicine Company Ltd. and Guizhou Medical College Pharmaceutical Works. In addition, a dozen or so of counterfeited substandard medicine sellers have been investigated and penalized and have had licenses rescinded for illicit sales of counterfeited substandard medicinal varieties in different localities in China. 　　 　　Turning Loss into Gain by the Metallurgical Trade 　　Typical are great changes that have been brought about in Jiangxi Pingxiang Iron and Steel Works. A plant founded 1954, it had suffered an accumulated amount of RMB$267 million yuan of economic loss during the three years 1995-97, particularly the year 1997 with a loss of as much high as RMB$94.98 million yuan. But since April 1997 when it came to be put under the charge of a capable director a complete change has been made of steel production in the plant. In recent two years, reforms have been carried out. Along with a quality growth in steel production and a growth in product varieties there has been accordingly a speedy rise in economic gains by the plant.
