Asian Winter Games Closes at Yongpyong
The curtain of the Fourth Asian Winter Games fell on Saturday with China retaining its top position at the gold medal tally and South Korea second.
Randhir Singh, secretary-general of OCA announced the Games' conclusion, saying the Kangwon Winter Games was a great occasion to improve the quality of the Asian winter sports.
The eight-day Games were the largest ever with some 800 participants from 23 countries and regions.
Records were broken 69 times during the Games, including world record for five times in the short track speed skating, Asian record for 37 times and Asian Games record for 27 times.
China retained top place with 15 golds at the medal tally, followed by South Korea with 11, its best in the history of the Game.
Kazakhstan, runner-up at the last Games, took 10 golds for third, while Japan grabbed six with Uzbekistan one. But It was the first gold medal for the country to take in the history of the Games.
Next Asian Winter Games will be held in Aomoli, Japan, in 2003.
