Thai King Praises "Sincerity" of Sino-Thai Relations
Sincerity is a distinguishing feature of the bilateral relations between Thailand and China, the Thai King, Bhumibol Adulyadej, said to visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan Friday.
The King noted that bilateral relations has been consolidated ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975.
One distinguishing feature of the relations is that the two countries treat each other open-heartedly and cooperate sincerely, the King said.
Tang said China and Thailand are as close as relatives.
The frequent visits to China by the members of the royal family also served as a "bridge of friendship" between the two countries.
During the 50-minute meeting, the King showed great interest in China's Three Gorges Project, listening carefully to Tang's briefing on how the project survived the catastrophic flood last year and the preliminary function it performed.
Earlier Friday, he held talks with Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai after signing the joint statement with Surin Pitsuwan, to push the bilateral relations to a new stage.
The statement, called the Joint Statement of the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Thailand on a Plan of Action for the 21st Century, serves as a framework and guideline for the relations between the two countries in the next century.
Tang arrived in Bangkok on Thursday for a three-day working visit.
