Monument Erected to Mark Great Strike
Wei Jianxing, a Standing Committee member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, unveiled a 27-meter monument in Wuhan on February 5 to mark the 76th anniversary of the Great Strike on February 7, 1923.
Wei, chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, extended best wishes to representatives of veteran workers and families of martyrs who participated in the strike.
Workers for the Beijing-Hankou Railway went on strike against imperialists and warlords in an effort to protect their rights and interests. The strike, carried out under the leadership of the CPC, sparked the Chinese Workers Movement.
Railway Minister Fu Zhihuan said the revolutionary spirit of the working class represents a precious force which has inspired railway workers to contribute to China's modernization drive.
