Shenyang and Nanning Out of "Blacklist" in Environment Protection

*Recently a piece of exciting news is spreading among the Shenyang citizens. A city nagged by environmental pollution, Shenyang has its name removed from the "blacklist" of the world top ten polluted cities.

As an old industrial base, air pollution had once been very serious in Shenyang. Being listed by World Health Organization in 1988, it ranked second among the ten most polluted cities known to the world. In the past ten years, the Shenyang municipality had taken measures for pollution control. In 1996, the city took lead in China in implementing the Regulations on Air Pollution Control. Coal as a fuel containing over 1% of sulfide is completely forbidden in the urban areas of the city. To control tail gas from automobiles non-leaded gasoline is introduced instead.

*Now tourists to Nanning would find the city is not only green but is also in great tranquillity. The city had been a noise polluted city known to the 3rd National Sanitation Cities Inspection. The intensity of noise had been placed at an average of 61.7 decibels and even as much high as 74.1 decibels on thoroughfares. But following the inspection no automobiles are allowed to sound their horns in downtown areas and this has brought about a drop of noise to 70 decibels on thoroughfares at the city center of Nanning.
