Vice-Premier Urges Strict Measures to Control Logging
Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao recently instructed all localities to adopt strict measures to protect forest reserves and tighten controls over excessive logging.
Wen issued the instructions at an ongoing national forestry conference. He also urged local governments to halt the allocation of forest areas for farming or other purposes in a bid to reverse the slow growth in forest reserves.
He urged local governments to implement the responsibility system for officials in order to protect and develop forest reserves, and called for strengthened law-enforcement efforts.
