Chinese Vice-President Arrives in Johannesburg
Visiting Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao Wednesday morning arrived in Johannesburg from Cape Town to continue his official visit in South Africa.
Hu attended the opening ceremony of China's Consulate-General in Johannesburg, the second in South Africa following the one in Cape Town.
Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Ji Peiding said establishment of a Consulate-General here will play a positive role in promoting Sino-South African relationship, enhancing bilateral economic and trade ties, and expanding exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
Johannesburg has the largest concentration of Chinese-South Africans and Chinese nationals in the country, Ji said, adding these people serve as an important link for friendly exchanges between the two countries.
Not long ago, Beijing and Gauteng Province formed sister relationship. And China will soon open one more Consulate-General in Durban next month, to make three the total number of Consulates-General in South Africa.
