General Secretary Jiang on Inner Mongolia Inspection Tour
State-owned enterprises must do more to ensure they play a vital role in the nation's economy, General Secretary Jiang Zemin said on his inspection tour of Inner Mongolia from January 28 to February 1.
Party committees and governments at all levels must do their best to assist laid-off workers, farmers in poverty-stricken areas and other needy people, and make sure relief funds for laid-off workers and pensions be distributed on time, General Secretary Jiang continued. .
During the five days of his Inner Mongolia inspection tour, Jiang went among the common run of workers, into workshops of state-run enterprises and laid-off workers' homes. He exhorted that to work in the interest of the people must be given top priority as it is directly related to the success of China's reform and economic construction and the nation's social stability and progress.
