China To Improve Processing Trade Management
China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) is preparing regulations to improve management of the processing business, according to spokesman Hu Chusheng.
Hu told a State Council Information Office press conference on January 29 that the new regulations are still under discussion, but that they will be aimed at encouraging the business.
He said that they will be directed at a few sensitive goods and poorly managed enterprises in the processing trade.
According to Chinese customs, the processing trade was worth 173 billion U.S. dollars last year, 53 percent of China's overall trade.
