IOC Releases Investigation Report

  The Investigation Committee of IOC has made public its report on several of IOC members' taking of bribery.

  According to the report, Salt Lake City's 2002 winter Olympic Games Bidding Organization had given Ganga from Congo about US$70 thousand in addition to US$17 thousand for his medical care and his family members, US$115 thousand for his travel expenses and US$ 14 thousand for precious gifts to him. A member from Mali was placed next in taking the bribery. Salt Lake provided US$97 thousand for his 26-year-old son studying in America. Kenya IOC member accepted US$34.65 thousand which he had transferred to a sports fund named after him and two of his family members hold positions as board directors of the Fund. A IOC member from chile accepted US$20.05 thousand in cheque. He pleaded that the cheque had the signature of chairman of Salt Lake Bidding Committee. He used the money for congress election and he regarded the money as a personal help for his election. Another receipant from Eccudor got US$19 thousand from 1992 to 1995. Salt Lake City also paid the same amount of travel expense for him. A member from Sudan received US$25 thousand from Salt Lake.

  The report reveals that Salt Lake City had employed 3 or 4 lobbyists to lobby the African members of IOC. The fee they gave one lobbyist came to US$161 thousand.

  Chairman of Australian NOC acknowledged that on the eve of deciding the host city of 2000 Olympic Games in September 1993, he sanctioned to give Kenya and Uganda a combined donation of US$70 thousand for promoting local sports movement in the two countries. He admitted that he did this under the request of kenya and Uganda members in IOC. The mayor of Nagano, Japan, also claimed that their reception given the IOC members was lavish because " we need their votes. It is very difficult to decline their request.
