HK Leader to Urge Global Financial Cooperation

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa said on January 27 that he would stress the need for further cooperation to strengthen the international financial architecture at the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Annual Meeting scheduled for January 28-30.

The theme for this year's WEF Meeting is "Global Responsibility: Managing the Impact of Globalization." Established in Switzerland in 1971, the WEF brings world leaders in a global partnership each year.

Before his departure for Davos, Switzerland, for the WEF's meeting, Tung told reporters that he would brief the world leaders on the latest development in Hong Kong. "I will particularly explain to them how Hong Kong has been able to tackle the financial crisis and the measures we have taken to sharpen our competitive edge," said the chief executive.

He will then leave Davos for Israel on January 31 to gain first-hand knowledge of technological development in that country.
