10th Anniversary of 10th Bainqen Lama's Death Commemorated
Wang Zhaoguo, Vice-Chairman of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, wrote an article on People's Daily to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of the 10th Bainqen Lama.
Wang said the 10th Bainqen Lama was a great patriot, a renowned activist in state affairs, a loyal friend of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
He added that the 10th Bainqen Lama had persisted in his stand of patriotism, unity and progress, and firmly objected to splitting activities during his lifetime.
"Both history and reality have proven that the Tibetan people can have a bright future ahead only when they live in a socialist motherland under the leadership of the CPC, and with unity among different ethnic nationalities ensured." Wang said that although the 10th Bainqen Lama left us 10 years ago, his loyalty to both the motherland and the religion, as well as his remarks and efforts supporting the unification of the motherland are still very vivid in the hearts of people of different ethnic groups.
Wang recalled that in March 1959, the upper-class reactionaries in Tibet, headed by the Dalai Lama, mounted an armed rebellion, and when the rebellion failed, they fled overseas.
The Bainqen Lama, under the banner of patriotism, unity and progress, supported the central government's policy of introducing democratic reform while quelling the rebellion.
The democratic reform liberated millions of serfs, who accounted for 95 percent of the autonomous region's population.
Wang called for consistent efforts to combat splitting activities and the "Independence of Tibet" under any disguise, which was initiated by the Dalai Lama. Full story in Chinese.
