Advance From 12-Point 'Relationship' to 11-Faceted 'Must' 　　This is the second article written by Our Commentator on study of Comrade Jiang Zemin's Speech delivered at the meeting marking the 20th anniversary of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The article is highlighted as follows: 　　On September 28, 1995, at the Fifth Plenum of the 14th CPC Central Committee, Jiang made a speech concerning the correct handling of 12 major relations in the socialist modernization drive. 　　On December 18, 1998, in his Speech Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, Jiang summed up 11-faceted historical experiences accumulated by the Party in leading reform, opening up and the socialist modernization drive. These historical experiences are of utmost importance for correctly handling various new contradictions and problems arising in reform and opening-up, and for promoting the continued development of our cause. 　　After 20 years of practice, our cause of reform and opening up has greatly liberated productive forces, widely stimulated enthusiasm and been crowned with remarkable successes. This process actually is a process in which our Party made use of the strength of our political power and the superiority of our system, reformed the economic system, readjusted the relationship of production, accelerated the development of productive forces and correctly handled various relations and contradictions. In the process of this historical change, our political power and system, and ideology and lines are the guarantee and prerequisite for the reform and opening-up, they are also subject to the tests of reform and opening up, they continuously reform themselves, strengthen, develop and perfect themselves. We must accurately grasp the compatible and incompatible interacting relationship between the economic base and the superstructure, correctly guide, coordinate and control various contradictions, and continuously push our cause forward. 　　Comrade Jiang Zemin's expositions on the 12-faceted relationships and summary of 11-point historical experiences are the succession, enrichment and development of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought, particularly Deng Xiaoping Theory, they represent vivid teaching materials helping us to grasp laws and control the whole situation and are programmatic documents guiding us to push our cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics fully into the new century.
