Yeltsin, Albright For Constructive Cooperation
Russian President Boris Yeltsin and visiting US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright agreed in Moscow Tuesday that the two sides would further develop their multifaceted ties despite some differences.
In a telephone conversation, the two reiterated the need for bilateral ties based on equality, mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests, the presidential press service said.
Yeltsin expressed "concern over Washington's actions in connection with transition into practical work of activities to create a national anti-missile defense system," but Albright told him that the United States remains committed to the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.
Albright said Washington is ready for continued close contacts with Russia on the issue.
On Iraq and Kosovo, the major sticking points in relations between the two countries, Yeltsin called for intensified efforts by the international community for political solutions.
