Chinese Vice-President Starts Ghanaian Tour
����Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao arrived in Accra January 26 to start his three-day official visit to Ghana, the second leg of his 13-day four African-nation tour.
����The Chinese vice-president came to Accra from Madagascar by a special plane as guest of Ghanaian Deputy President John Evans Attah Mills, who greeted Hu at the airport.
����This is Hu's first trip to Africa.
����In his written statement upon arrival, Hu said his current visit is to help increase the "brotherly and traditional friendship" between the two nations and expand the existing friendly cooperation.
����He expressed the hope that this visit will serve to push bilateral friendly cooperative ties to a new high and contribute to the China-Ghana friendship.
����In the long run, he continued, China and Ghana have fruitful cooperation in the political, economic, trade, cultural and educational sectors, as well as in international affairs.
����The two peoples support and learn from each other and develop a profound feeling, Hu added.
����Amid cheers and local dances, some other senior Ghanaian officials also went to the airport to welcome the Chinese vice-president.
����Accompanying Hu on the current African visit are Vice-Foreign Minister Ji Peiding and some other Chinese officials.
����Later Tuesday, Hu is scheduled to visit the cemetery in memory of Ghana's first President Kwame Nkrumah and attend a reception hosted by Mills.
����Wednesday, Hu will call on Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings and confer with Mills.
����After this visit, Hu will go to Cote d'Ivoire on January 28 to continue his African tour, in which South Africa will be the last leg.
