China Backs up IOC's Decisions
The Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) January 25 gave its support for the decisions made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on January 24 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Despite being shocked and deeply regretful with the worst corruption in the Olympic history, the COC spokesman said the COC believed the IOC is capable of handling the matter in a proper way and will crack down on its members linked to the votes-buying bribery scandals.
The spokesman said the COC respected the IOC's decisions and supported Sydney and Salt Lake City to host the 2000 Summer and 2002 Winter Olympic Games respectively.
"The two host cities have made huge efforts to prepare for the Games, which should not be denied by several members' misconduct," the spokesman said.
Although the IOC had played a major part in pushing through the Olympic Movement since its establishment, it failed in some respects to adapt to the rapidly changing dynamics of the Olympics, and the reform, especially its bidding process, is a must, the spokesman added.
The COC has always been opposing any conducts which would endanger the spirit of the Olympic Movement and will strictly comply with the new bidding regulations set by the IOC, the spokesman said.
Beijing has officially launched a bid to host the 2008 Summer Olympics.
