Lao Prime Minister Arrives in Beijing

Prime Minister Sisavat Keobounphan of the Lao People's Democratic Republic arrived in the Chinese capital of Beijing on January 24.

He is on an eight-day official visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji.

The prime minister is expected to hold talks with Zhu, during which the two sides will have an exchange of views on bilateral ties and issues of common concern.

Besides Beijing, Sisavat and his party are scheduled to visit Hainan Province, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province.

This is Sisavat's first visit to China since he took office as prime minister last February.

Officials from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs greeted the Lao delegation at the airport.

Before arriving in Beijing, the Lao delegation made a stopover at Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.
