White House Lawyers Start Defense in Senate Trial
White House counsel Charles Ruff (right) leaves the Senate after his defense of President Bill Clinton in the Senate impeachment trial, arguing the case outlined last week by House prosecutors does not warrant his removal from office.
Ruff opened the presentation to the 100 senators entrusted with deciding whether Clinton should be removed from office on perjury and obstruction of justice charges stemming from his affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
