Punish Officials to Blame for Bridge Collapse in Qijiang

����Chongqing mayor Pu Haiqing said on January 18 that officials in blame for bridge collapse in Qijiang County that has taken a toll of 40 people will be punished "no matter whoever they are".

����He announced that further investigations will be carried out to look into the case.

����The mayor revealed that the Chongqing government has set up an investigation team to check on 305 projects that are under construction in the city, of which 47 are also found poorly constructed. The government has issued orders for construction of the projects to be suspended.

����Pu said that corruption underlay the problems found.

����The collapse of the Rainbow Bridge happened on January 4, with 40 people killed and 14 injuries. The police have arrested the Party secretary of Qijiang and other three officials.
