750 Kilometers of Yellow River Frozen

China's famous Yellow River has frozen along a stretch of 580 km in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 50 km in Hequ, Shanxi Province, and 120 km in Sanmenxia, a total of 750 km frozen.

The river freezing up is usual but this year is over 20 days later than in other years as temperatures in many areas along the Yellow River have been higher than normal.

This year's task of preventing the river icing up is quite formidable. During the freezing period, water inflow from the upper reaches of the river has been increasing, coupled with high water levels, which has created great difficulties for local residents in their fight against the ice in spring. Chinese Vice-premier Wen Jiabao said that all preparatory work must be ready for any rescue task in case dangerous situations occur.
