Agriculture Developing on a New Stage in China
Chinese agriculture has achieved a stable growth and it has been developing by now on a new stage, according to experts and concerned authorities in China. To mark this is an estimated grain output totaling 490 million tons to be achieved by China for 1998, at a level of that in 1997. Cotton is to be placed at an output of 4.33 million tons from a decreased acreage to meet the basic requirement of the country for 1999. In addition, continuous output growth has been achieved by the country in developing production of other farm crops as of oil-bearing seeds, sugar, vegetables, fruit, meat, milk and aquatic products. Country-based enterprises have also experienced a vigorous growth with an output value of RMB$2400 billion yuan to have been created for a growth of 17.5% over the year 1997. Though big floods had been met by the country last year the Chinese farmers still wrested a grain output of no less grains than the previous year, not to say various measures and policies that have been adopted by the country in support of agricultural production during the New Year.
