Kosovo Crisis

*UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Saturday called for "a full investigation" into the alleged massacre of some 40 civilians in the Serbian province of Kosovo.

Annan said in a statement, issued on Saturday night, that "I am gravely concerned with this latest development and called for a full investigation by the competent authorities."

"I am shocked to learn today of the alleged massacre of some 40 individuals, apparently civilians, in Kosovo," and "I appeal once again to all sides in Kosovo to refrain from any action that would further escalate the tragic situation."

*Serbian President Milan Milutinovic on Sunday accused the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) monitors in Kosovo of lying about a massacre of dozens of ethnic Albanian civilians.

According to a report carried by the Tanjug news agency, the American diplomat Walker claimed late Saturday night that the Serbian police force had killed 45 ethnic Albanian civilians in the village of Racak, some 30 kilometers south of Pristina, on Friday.

Milutinovic said in his statement that the Serbian police went to the village of Racak on Friday in search for the killers of a Serb policeman who was found dead five days ago. Albanian separatists opened fire at the police and the police had to fight back.

*The Albanian government got into the swing of diplomatic actions Saturday urging immediate international intervention in Kosovo, where 45 ethnic Albanians were reportedly killed in a fresh outbreak of violence.
