China's Deputy Military Head Says PLA Needs to Be Clean
Zhang Wannian, the vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, said on January 15 that the military needs to follow Jiang Zemin's speech on fighting corruption and continue the drive to improve Party work inside the armed forces.
"We should be aware of the importance of keeping the military clean," Zhang told the Third Plenary Session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
In the reforms and the socialist market economy, whether the People's Liberation Army retains its original nature and remains invincible is an important matter, he said.
In the anti-corruption drive this year, emphasis should be placed on stopping business operations and paid services and combating extravagance and unhealthy tendencies in promoting officers.
