Firework Explosion Kills 13 People in East China
����An explosion ripped through a small fireworks factory in the city of Nankang in east China's Jiangxi Province on January 10, killing 13 people and injuring 9 others. A local farmer, Du Yongliang, had invited some villagers to his workshop to make fireworks with illegally obtained materials.
����The shop had already been ordered to stop production due to its failure to meet state safety requirements, but Du ignored the order. Du, who was not present when the accident occurred, has fled and police are now searching for him. The city government of Nankang has ordered 290 fireworks shops to suspend production and improve safety measures.
