Sanctions against Russian Organizations Denounced
Russian Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov Wednesday strongly criticized the United States for applying sanctions against Russian organizations, saying "the use of force or sanctions against our organizations are counter-productive in Russian-US relations, to which we attach great importance," said the Interfax news agency.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted in a statement that the US sanctions against the three Russian institutes "may complicate Russian-American relations".
The United States imposed economic sanctions Tuesday on three Russian institutions and accused them of transferring missile and nuclear technology to Iran.
President Bill Clinton's national security advisor Sandy Berger announced the sanctions in a speech at the annual Carnegie International Non-proliferation Conference.
