����The north shore of Meizhou Bay, Putian City, Fujian Province, is an important port economic development zone which integrates international transit, export processing, holiday tourism and heavy chemical industry. Currently, the area has signed, with businessmen from countries and regions including the United States, Japan, Argentina, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 82 projects, involving a total investment of US$1.8 billion, of which construction of a batch of projects is being stepped up. Pictured here is a 35,000-ton coal harbor under construction. By the year 2000, a batch of special-purpose harbors will be completed in the port on the north shore of Meizhou Bay, with a handling capacity reaching 8 million tons.
