Chinese Top Legislator Meets Dutch Visitors
Chinese top legislator Li Peng January 13 met with a Dutch delegation led by Frans Weisglas, first vice-president of the Second Chamber of the Netherlands' States-General.
Li recalled his visit to the Netherlands in the capacity of Chinese premier last February, saying that the achievements the Dutch people have scored through their hard-working and wisdom in renovating the nature have impressed him deeply.
He added he hopes that the ongoing visit by the Dutch delegation will help deepen mutual understanding and play a positive role in expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Li said that China has enjoyed continued economic growth and social progress, and that despite many difficulties in the road forward, the situation in China is generally good.
He said that the economic reform and the building of democracy and the legal system in China have developed harmoniously, which is a suitable path of development in line with Chinese conditions. China is working hard to build a socialist country according to laws, he added.
Li expressed his hope that China and the Netherlands will increase exchanges in legislation, including expanding contacts between the parliamentarians of both countries.
Weisglas also expressed the hope that the parliaments, governments and business communities in the two countries will further promote mutual understanding and cooperation.
The Dutch visitors are here at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
