China to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Work
China will continue and intensify its ongoing anti-corruption campaign to ensure a clean and honest government in 1999, a high-ranking Party leader said January 13.
Wei Jianxing, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks at the third plenary session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, which began in Beijing yesterday morning.
The session aims to summarize the work of the anti-corruption campaign launched 1998 and will consolidate its plans this year.
In a work report on the campaign's activities, Wei, who is also secretary of the commission, said that the CPC Central Committee and the State Council made great efforts in the past year to achieve a clean and honest government in accordance with the guidelines set down at the 15th National Party Congress.
He pointed out, however, that the fight against corruption is far from satisfactory at present, and called for more efforts to be made to enforce the laws.
