Political Collusion to Resist Reunification

Last month, the Taiwan authorities invited Wei Jingsheng in the name of "visiting scholar", who was released on bail for medical treatment, to go from the United States to Taiwan for two-week activities. This move of the Taiwan authorities aimed to collude with Wei Jingsheng, who had support from the US anti-China forces, to whip up opinion to vilify the Chinese mainland and divert the attention of Taiwan people from their demand for relaxation, and development of cross-Straits relationship, peddle the "experience of Taiwan democracy" to oppose reunification by playing the "democratic card".

In Taiwan mass media, commentaries point out that in the past two years, the Taiwan authorities had successively admitted the Dalai Lama and Wei Jingsheng into Taiwan for visits. By doing so, their aim naturally was "to confront the Communist Party of China". But development of this antagonistic policy means what is harmed will be cross-Straits relationship and the victims can only be the Taiwan people.
