Tanzanian President Meets Chinese Foreign Minister
Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan at the State House in Dar es Salaam Monday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all fields.
"We'll realize their foresighted expectations on the bilateral relations by deepening bilateral political cooperation and consultations and boosting various forms of cooperation by the enterprises of both sides," Mkapa said.
He reiterated that Tanzania is consistent in upholding the principled stand of "one China", and such a stand will never see any change.
Tang said history has proved that China and Tanzania are the all-weather sincere friends of mutual trust since the two countries forged diplomatic ties more than 30 years ago.
The Sino-Tanzanian friendship fostered by both leaders of the old generation has also found new forms in the fields of economic and trade cooperation to keep abreast of the times, he said.
"China will encourage more of its powerful and prestigious enterprises and companies to invest in Tanzania to try to contribute to its economic development," he said.
On the relations between China and African countries, Tang noted that China's foreign policy remains based upon strengthening its cooperation with the vast developing countries including those in Africa.
On the same day Tang and his Tanzanian counterpart Jakaya Kikwete signed three agreements to boost bilateral cooperation.
Under the agreements, China will grant Tanzania assistance to improve the rehabilitation of water supply facilities in the central city of Dodoma. China also agreed to donate emergency food aid to help Tanzania alleviate the worsening food shortage caused by natural disasters.
