Chinese Vice-Premier Places Higher Demands On Education
Vice-premier Li Lanqing laid down five requirements for institutions of higher learning at a national conference on education in Beijing January 12.
Li said that higher education should play a bigger role in revitalizing China through science and education and that schools should train higher-quality personnel for the 21st century, speed up management reforms at universities, improve the quality of education, enhance efficiency, and raise the standard of teachers.
Minister of Education Chen Zhili and officials from concerned departments of the State Council and Beijing attended the conference.
