China to Unify Her Social Security System
Social security used to be practiced in an obsolete multifarious form in China. To reform this efforts have been made by China in line with a decision of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council in 1998. The reform efforts include those launched by various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities for eliminating all obsolete forms and practices that had been long used in social security management and introduction of a new employment system ensuring work opportunities for all unemployed (and laid-off workers at present), guaranteed old-age pension for the retired and medical service enjoyed by people under a unified social security system in China.
