A Renewal of Knowledge Called for
Chinese officials should attach greater importance to the new knowledge that is needed for modernization, the People's Daily says in an editorial published on January 12.
This is inevitable in trying to reach the next century's objectives, the editorial says, and global competition has become a measure of comprehensive national strength, or an expression of the quality of a people.
To push ahead with China's reforms and modernization conscientiously, the editorial notes, it is imperative to study Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory and economics, politics, science and technology, the law, history and culture, and the greatest achievements of mankind civilization.
It says that cadres at all levels, especially higher officials, need to be more aware of the study of theory and need to update their knowledge.
The study of theory and various fields of knowledge should be integrated with practice, with emphasis on tackling key problems, and the separation of theory from practice and dogmatism should be opposed, it says.
