Hong Kong Deputies to NPC Visit Guangdong 　　Deputies to the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC) from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region listened to work reports by senior department officials of the State Council and Guangdong Provincial government January 10 as part of a four-day visit to Guangdong. 　　The 30 deputies from Hong Kong are the first group for which the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has arranged an inspection tour of Guangdong, where they will learn about the development of its high-tech industries and education. 　　One deputy said that the visit is an important way for NPC deputies to do their job and learn about the development of the national economy and society at the same time. 　　According to Chinese law, the NPC Standing Committee and local people's congress standing committee are to organize visits by NPC deputies before each annual NPC session to see just how resolutions of the previous session have been implemented. 　　Before 1997, when Hong Kong was returned to China, deputies there had participated in NPC activities as members of the Guangdong provincial delegation. 　　 HomeNews 1999-01-11 Page4 Full Story in Chinese
