ARATS President Calls for Political Dialog
Wang Daohan, the president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), reiterated January 10 the importance of conducting procedural dialogs on political negotiations across the Taiwan Straits.
If the Taiwan authorities consider holding such a dialog difficult for the present, Wang said in an article on the 20th anniversary of the release of the "Message to Compatriots in Taiwan", then Taiwan and the mainland should discuss matters that are beneficial to peaceful reunification and cross-Straits relations, including through political dialogs.
He expressed the hope that that the Association will increase dialogs with its Taiwan counterpart, improve conditions for procedural political negotiations and promote the development of bilateral relations.
The 21st century is approaching and the entire Chinese people have every reason to believe the Taiwan issue will be solved at an early date, he said, and urged the Taiwan authorities to consider the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, face the appeals of people across the Taiwan Straits squarely, and contribute to the development of cross-straits relations and the reunification of China.
