Calling for Safety in Production and Life of Work

Mine gas explosion was reported on January 3 to have led to a casualty amount of 23 and the death of 23 workers respectively under Tiefa Mine Administration in Liaoning Province. Following this, Qijiang Country Rainbow Bridge collapsed on January 4 bringing a mortality of 35 pedestrians in Chongqing. Statistics show that in the first ten months of 1998, as reported from various Chinese mines and enterprises, there were 11,604 accidents that had brought a mortality of 10,723. Also, in the first eleven months of the same year there were 116,727 fires that had resulted in a mortality of 1711 and a direct economic loss of RMB$1.15 billion yuan to the Chinese economy. A grave lesson from these is that people should pay the greatest attention to the safety of production and guard against any happening of accidents in work and daily life.
