This Year's National Plan for Enrollment of 1.3 Million University Students 　　The Ministry of Education announced January 6 that the state plans to admit 1.3 million students into institutions of higher learning this year, an increase of 220,000 people, or nearly 20 percent rise, over the previous year. 　　The ministry hopes that governments at various levels will conscientiously implement Premier Zhu Rongji's instruction that "reinvigorating the country through science and education is the greatest task for the current government", and that they should work hard to improve conditions for running schools and ensure the smooth accomplishment of this year's enrollment plan, guarantee the quality of students trained, so as to make still greater contribution to China's modernization drive. 　　 Educationcul 1999-01-07 Page1
