Mass Sport Target Drafted
In China, more than 300 million persons/times took part in the 4th Week of Sports for All People in 1998. The mass sport has gained new development in the past few years.
The sports population comprised 31.4 percent of the total population in 1996, higher than the average of the developing countries, but lower than in the developed and moderately-developed countries, according to a survey result.
The problems remaining are lack of interest and time, and low consumption level as well. About 58.3 percent of all families spend less than 100 yuan annually on physical exercises.
The mass sport target laid down by the State Sports Administration includes methods such as enhancing the awareness of physical culture in the whole society and making 40 percent of the whole population often take physical exercises.
