East Asian Economies to Recover

Following the beginning of 1999 the currencies of Southeast Asian countries and ROK continuously tend to become stable when helped by a steadily rising stock market. Foreign investments began to reflow into this region and their foreign exchange reserves also increase. All these show that the East Asian economies have the hope to be away from the financial crisis and head for a recovery road.

East Asian countries have all adopted economic reform measures and achieved good results. By the end of last year the currency value of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippine, Thailand and ROK has rebounded 5 to 30 percent and their stock markets have re-risen more than 10 percent.

Some experts believe that the financial crisis has reached its bottom and the economy of this region will increase slowly in the later half of 1999.
