| The Ceremony for Paying Last Respects to Yang Zhengmin's Remains Takes Place in Beijing
Yang Zhengmin, an outstanding Communist Party member, executive member of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), former deputy secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, and son of the famous patriotic general Yang Hucheng, died of sudden heart attack at the age of 76 in Beijing on October 23. The ceremony for seeing off his remains was held yesterday in Beijing.
State leaders Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and others expressed condolences in various forms over the death of Yang Zhengmin. Li Ruihuan and others were at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery to bid final farewell to Yang's remains.
Representative of Zhang Xueliang and his wife Zhao Yidi now residing in the United States was sent to come to attend the ceremony.
Influenced by the patriotism and revolutionary heroism exhibited by generals Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng, Yang Zhengmin joined the CPC at the age of 16 and went to Yan'an to begin his revolutionary career. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Yang threw himself into the cause of national rehabilitation and construction, and founded China's first large oil base, thus making important contribution to China's earliest modernized oilfield.
