MADRID, Dec. 5 -- The Spanish industrial production increased by 1.8 percent in October when compared with the same month in 2012, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported on Thursday.

The INE said that in annual terms, all sectors saw their production increase except from consumption goods and energy, where production fell by 0.4 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.

Production of intermediate goods increased by 1.7 percent, while production of non-durable consumer goods - such as food - rose by 0.4 percent. However, production of durable consumer goods decreased by 8.6 percent, said the INE.

On a monthly basis, industrial production fell by 0.8 percent.

According to the INE, industrial production fell in all sectors in the first ten months of the year except from that of equipment, which increased by 0.7 percent.

This is the second consecutive month of rises in Spain's industrial production after the Index of Industrial Production (IPI) had increased by 3.7 percent in September.

Spain's production has been seriously affected by the economic crisis which started in 2008 when Spain's housing bubble burst. However, in a sign of economic recovery, the Spanish economy grew by 0.1 percent in the third quarter of 2013.

According to the Spanish government, markets and international investors are changing their opinions about the situation of the Spanish economy, which is better off than a year ago.
