The Spring Festival Rush came to an end on Feb. 24, 2014, and the tickets are not hard to get any more. More than 3.6 billion trips have contributed to “the largest migration for human being” in the 40-day-rush.
According to preliminary statistics from the Ministry of Transportation, approximately 3.3 billion passengers were transported by highway during the 40 days, a year on year increase of 6 percent; the civil aviation has carried 44.1 million passengers, an increase of 15.7 percent; 42 million passengers were transported by waterway transport.
The record of Spring Festival rush dates back to 1954, when the passenger volume stood at only 23 million. Since the 1980s, Spring Festival rush has become a social phenomenon as more and more farmers left their homes to work in cities. Ever since then, the number of passengers transported during the Spring Festival has continued to increase.
